Over 250 people from across the UK attended the second Educate North Awards last Thursday: an increase of 25% in numbers attending, a consequence of the marked rise in entries submitted this year. And the compere, Rob McLoughlin confirmed that plans were already underway to grow the 2017 Awards initiative even further.

The Educate North Awards initiative is delivered in association with The Daily Telegraph, Barclays, The Alliance Manchester Business School, UCLan, the University of Manchester Intellectual Property, Utopia Technology and the Bird Consultancy. And this year the Awards were enhanced with the launch of a new initiative supported by UClan and the debut of the University Entrepreneurs Challenge 2016.

Educate North aims to celebrate the success and growth of the knowledge sector across the North of England and it is extremely encouraging that in the face of several well-established national awards, even more leading institutions chose to engage in this second year of this uniquely Northern initiative.

The award winners and the winners of the Entrepreneurs Challenge were announced at a spectacular dinner on the evening of Thursday 21 April at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. As with last year, the awards dinner was preceded by a conference in the afternoon, showcasing best practice and the world-class status of many of the North’s leading HE institutions along with high level presentations and debate and a special video interview with Greg Dyke.

Our thanks go out once again to our outstanding panel of judges, detailed information on whom can be found here.

Educate North was staged in association with The Daily Telegraph and our partners Barclays, the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester Intellectual Property (UMIP), John Kennedy CBE and three new partners this year in the shape of UClan, Utopia Technology and the Bird Consultancy.

Further information on the University Entrepreneurs Challenge 2016 and the winners will be published in a separate review piece on Prolific North this week.
