NUSU were the proud receivers of the ‘Students’ Union of the Year’ title at last night’s Educate North Awards at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, succeeding against other shortlisted nominees from University of Cumbria Students’ Union (UCSU) and University of Manchester Students’ Union.
The Educate North Awards celebrates the brightest and best education establishments in the North of England each year and NUSU has this year been honoured as being one of them.
Dominic Fearon, NUSU President, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for us – Newcastle really is the best place to study”.
On receiving the award on behalf of NUSU, delighted Chief Executive Simon Gerry said that the award represented ‘a great team effort’ and paid tribute to all the staff at the SU who work tirelessly to ensure that our students get the best possible experience when studying at Newcastle. He also went on to thank all of the students who participate in our diverse range of activities and services, and the University who have been ‘very supportive of the new initiatives and ideas that NUSU has introduced over the past few years’.
NUSU were also ‘Highly Commended’ for their Participation Bursaries project, which provides financial support for eligible students to join the Students’ Union’s clubs and societies.
