Winstanley College has been crowned College of the Year at The Educate North Awards, in association with The Telegraph.
The impressive title was announced at an awards ceremony held on Thursday 21st April at Manchester Deansgate’s Hilton Hotel. The college was up against the north of England’s finest education providers, initially being whittled down to a shortlist of just two. After going head to head with the other shortlisted provider, Tameside College, host and multi-award-winning broadcaster, Rob Mcloughlin, OBE, announced Winstanley as the overall winner.
To rapturous applause and cheers the staff and governors representing Winstanley were invited onto stage to receive the trophy. Vice Principal, Mel Chadwick, gave a touching acceptance speech dedicating the award to the students, staff and partners who make Winstanley the ‘special place’ it is.
Earlier in the evening, the college also received a ‘Highly Commended’ commendation in the External Relations Programme of the Year category. This was to recognise the PR and marketing work that Winstanley has done over the past year and in particular the prolific A Level Result Day campaign which saturated local and national media, including being the only college featured on ITV’s Good Morning Britain. To receive this recognition was a real achievement since the college was up against universities with multi-million pound marketing budgets, coming second only to The University of Manchester.
