Godfrey Taylor, Chairman of Interact, says backing this major milestone in the history of the Educate North Awards was an easy choice; ‘2023 saw all my colleagues and the entire room of academics, executives, students, and industry figures rise to their feet to honour the superb winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
‘Professor Nicola Curtin had worked successfully in anti-cancer drug development and then donated royalties of £865,000 to her new charity to aid young people in Newcastle with social mobility and job development’.
‘It was the moment we realised we must back the philosophy of the Awards which match our ethos to be creative, inventive and to ensure we serve the people who need our services’.
He continued: ‘This year again, Interact , will focus on key categories where we will be handing major awards to institutions across Northern England who are at the cutting edge of business and entrepreneurial development’. ‘These awards are highly competitive and hard-won and help to keep the North at the forefront of business and scientific development.’
Professor Emeritus Ruth Ashford, Deputy Chair of Judges said; ‘In 2024 we have brought together a wonderful group of expert judges from an array of disciplines and specialities to assess and debate another superb collection of entries. The deliberations are intense, never tense, but always well-argued and debated.’
She continued; ‘It is therefore tremendous to welcome Godfrey and his team back to Educate North Awards in 2024 but also to have their expertise on board to assist us as we grow these awards and bring them closer to the communities which need them, who access education and who help the North and the country prosper’.
Interact will officially become category sponsors and join the organisation’s media partners Communicorp UK which owns the Heart Yorkshire, Smooth North West and Smooth North East stations which reach two million listeners as a key part of the Educate North family. Voiceworks also part of Communicorp UK is a sponsor as well as IT Capital and the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) at the University of Manchester.
The Educate North Awards was first staged on 3rd June 2015 and was hosted by founder Rob McLoughlin OBE (www.robmcloughlin.com) he described Interact’s support as ‘superb and important’ as they sit at ‘the edge of a technology which is assisting universities already and can do so much more’.
