The Astrophysics Research Institute, leaders on The Virgo Consortium EAGLE project, won Research Project of the Year and The Football Exchange at LJMU and Prozone Sports Ltd won the Commercial Engagement Award. The Jockey Research Group was also Highly Commended in the Research Project of the Year category. LJMU had also been shortlisted for University of the Year, alongside Newcastle University, the University of Sheffield, University of Chester and Lancaster University. Newcastle University claimed victory on the night.
The award-winning EAGLE is a project of the VIRGO Consortium, made up of researchers from UK, Germany, Holland, Canada and the USA, the goal of which is to carry out state-of-the-art cosmological simulations which help astrophysicists understand how galaxies form and evolve.
The Football Exchange won the Commercial Engagement Award for its work in enabling the football community to directly access the expertise of its world-leading staff and processes. LJMU have over the years successfully worked with many football organisations helping them with research, education and consultancy, including bespoke solutions.
